7-02 First night sleeping
So we pulled up to the house after I was getting so tired of driving as was my host mother. It took more than 6 hours to get to Shroma! It’s a big village on top of a multiple hills. So yay for the bitter cold! So we had to drive 20 mins on a super BUMBY road, it was horrible! But when we got there we unloaded the car and met a woman Maria and a boy Gorgi. They were there to welcome me and also open the gate to the house. The little is adorable probably around 8 yrs old, and has some American looking features, who know. We have some really strong coffee which was evident when it was time for bed and I was wide awake. But man was it cold, I have no idea how I fell asleep. But the rooster woke the whole world up at who knows what time. I fell back to sleep until 11:30, guess I was tired! When I woke up I went down stairs and grandma was awake and tried to feed me enough food for 5 people. She kept saying eat, I would say NO, No! It was a seriously a huge contest we met in the middle.
So the main problem was the language barrier, everything else was great! Also their trying to do everything for me, which is hard, no to go take my plate to the sink or not get up to get around them; they would just push me down and say “sit”! So far the last hour my grandma has been warming water for my shower. I really just want to take a shower, lol. They are so sweet. The dog let me pet him finally today, and the cat lay in my arms for a little bit and purred, so progress with the animals. I just have a super stuffy nose from being stuck in the hotel all week and it being heated the whole time. So I am probably going to have this cold until I get use to the weather. Also, have to mention, DIRTY DANCING WAS ON CARRIE!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH HOW I WAS EXCITED. I only watched like 5 mins of it but it was a great five minutes!
Every day I wake up buried under all the blankets, and must be sweating during the night because my hair is always crazy curly! TONY AND CARLA I KNOW NOW HOW YOU FELTTHE FIRST MONTH YOU LIVED IN BRAZIL!!!! They were so nice to put a space heater in my room, but it didn’t work at all. I saw that I had like 7 blankets and everyone else had 2, but the mom insisted they were warm enough.
PART TWO
The first day so far is going pretty good. I think we’re getting somewhere with talking, I just wish I could talk to them and have a conversation. I feel so alone right now, but it never stays because I’ll get a text or call from a friend and it will all be gone. I feel so stupid for not buying a dictionary or translation book. I hope everyday it gets better because I really like this family, but every other hour we have an English struggle and I get frustrated with myself.
For a second I thought they had internet because Toma, my host brother, got out this laptop and Skype popped up but when I asked or more like pointed he said no. So disappointing to say the least. I’ll have to go tomorrow to the big city and get it! (Update: 2-11-12 NO INTERNET) I have a little cold just because of the weather still and with only having 2 rooms in the whole house being heated with the “fireplace” my bedroom is freezing so the difference at night is truly making the difference.
Writing does make a difference just knowing people will read and be able to know what’s going on. All that needs to be done to make me happier is for it to make the snow go away and increase in temperature by 20 degrees! I miss everyone! Don’t fret I’ll be okay!
