My Family
I know I should have said something before the details of my family, so even though I’m just writing this, hopefully I can make this my first post after everything else is posted about my time at orientation.
My Family includes the host mother (Nino, whose in her 40s), my host brother (Toma whose 10), and my grandmother, who I call (bebia or deda whose in her mid 70s) which are grandmother or mother, depending on the situation do I call her.
Okay, so let me just start by saying they are seriously the nicest, kindest family I have ever met. The family adores one another and I have never seen this much love between one family before. For instance multiple times of the day Toma, will go to his grandmother and hold her face and whisper happy, sweet little things to her, it seriously the sweetest thing I have ever seen in my entire life! And will just stop what he is doing to go and kiss her and just make sure she knows how much he loves her. She seriously is the cutest grandma ever, strong and with it still even with her age. When she first met me she gave me little pats on the shoulder or hugs behind me in the car. I actually have also gotten in the habit of giving her a kiss on the cheek every once and awhile, just to let her know how much I appreciate what she does.
SO LOOK OUT MOM FOR LOTS OF HUGS AND KISSES EVERY OTHER SECOND WHEN I GET BACK IN JUNE!
My host brother also I have to say is seriously the smartest kid I have ever met. How does he learn, he read and say it once, like a whole paragraph and then can then repeat back what it says without looking at it. Amazing I swear! He doesn’t usually understand everything I say, and vice versa. But once I teach him something he knows exactly what I’m asking the next time. Sometimes I feel like I do not know what to teach him because he is so smart! Other times because I need an actual translator there to explain what I really mean. Today I taught him the days of the week and how to ask the time and to answer what the time is not using military time. Haha, trying to teach him the ways of the US, lol!!
My mother also is amazing. She is trying so hard to learn English. Every night she sits next to me and goes through her translator book and if she needs explaining or pronunciation she says “excuse me” it’s amazing. I am so privilege to have a mother that wants to really learn English. I just wish I could explain a few things a little better. There’s a few words that are never used in the United States, like “hence,” or “hither” that one is difficult because Georgians can’t make the –th sound but can make other sounds that I could never get.
So there’s pretty much all that needs to be known about my family. Any other questions let me know! And I’ll answer them.
